Child Care Option

Year 10 and 11 students can choose a Child Care Option.  This is a BTEC Award at Entry Level with possible progression to a Level 1 award over a two year cycle.  It considers aspects of Child Care for children aged 0-3 years and can lead to a further qualifications in this sector.

The course covers the following aspects:

Communication between Adults and Children

Students study both verbal and non-verbal ways of communication and how to encourage development of communication skills in young children.  They then apply this knowledge to plan and create a resource for a child to enhance their communication.

Understanding the care needs of a child aged 0-3 years

Students look at several areas of needs for young children including sleep, diet and exercise.  Through field trips, working in the school Bistro and by exploring resources needed to care for young children, students then create a care plan focussing on a chosen area of need.
